Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County as opposition leaders intensify efforts to forge a united political front ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting, held on Monday, October 26, 2026, comes amid ongoing consultations among opposition leaders seeking to establish a common strategy to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming polls.

The discussions also come at a time when political differences have emerged over Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s potential presidential bid, with Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) expressing support for the senator.

On Sunday, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said the party intended to engage Kalonzo to persuade him to back Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.

Malala maintained that DCP had settled on Sifuna as its preferred candidate and was reaching out to other opposition leaders to build consensus around his candidature.

However, Wiper dismissed claims that Kalonzo’s planned visit to Gachagua was intended to secure his support for Sifuna, warning that such statements risked creating divisions within the opposition.

Through party spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru, Wiper criticised Malala’s remarks, arguing that the ongoing engagements should be viewed in the context of broader efforts to strengthen opposition cooperation.

The Wamunyoro meeting follows Gachagua’s October 20 engagement with Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement. That meeting fuelled speculation about possible cooperation between DCP and the political camp linked to the Nairobi senator.

The earlier discussions brought together several political figures, including former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo, Linda Mwananchi communications head Pauline Njoroge, DCP Secretary General John Methu and Malala.

The latest meeting between Kalonzo and Gachagua is expected to attract attention as opposition leaders continue exploring possible alliances and negotiating the terms of political cooperation ahead of the next election.

Kalonzo has been involved in broader efforts to bring opposition parties together, while Gachagua and his allies have been pursuing engagements with leaders associated with different political formations.

Despite the ongoing consultations, questions remain over who will emerge as the opposition’s presidential candidate and how the various political camps will reconcile their competing ambitions.

The outcome of these engagements could play a significant role in shaping the opposition’s political direction as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
