DCI Arrests Suspect Linked to Gang Rape, Abduction and Phone Snatching in Thika West

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Thika West have arrested a wanted suspect believed to be connected to a series of serious offences, including abduction, gang rape and phone-snatching incidents reported in the area.
The suspect, identified as Crispus Mwangi Gitambi, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in the Athena area after detectives traced him to a rented house where he was found hiding.
According to the DCI, the operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to track down suspects linked to a number of reported criminal incidents within Thika West.
During the search of the premises, detectives recovered a black TVS motorcycle bearing registration number KMGS 004N. The motorcycle is suspected to have been stolen and is believed to have been used in some of the phone-snatching incidents under investigation.
The recovery of the motorcycle is expected to form part of the evidence being examined by investigators as they seek to establish how it was acquired and whether it was directly used during the reported crimes.
Following his arrest, Gitambi was subjected to an identification parade as detectives continued to link him to specific cases under investigation.
The DCI said the suspect was positively identified in connection with an ongoing abduction and gang rape case pending before the Thika Law Courts.
He was also positively identified in connection with four other robbery cases that are currently under investigation by detectives.
The identification has given investigators further leads as they work to establish the suspect’s alleged role in the different incidents.
Detectives have since intensified investigations to determine the full extent of Gitambi’s alleged involvement in the offences and establish whether he acted alone or as part of a wider criminal network.
Investigators are also pursuing leads that could help identify and arrest other individuals suspected to have participated in the reported crimes.
The arrest comes amid continued efforts by security agencies in Thika West to respond to robbery and other violent crimes affecting residents and businesses in the area.
Police investigations will also seek to establish whether the recovered motorcycle is connected to other reported cases beyond the four robbery incidents already under review.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives finalise their investigations.
He is expected to be arraigned in court once the investigations are complete, where he will face the relevant charges based on the evidence gathered by investigators.
The arrest and identification parade do not amount to a conviction, and Gitambi will have the opportunity to answer to the allegations before a court of law.
