Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has moved to calm concerns over his squad’s fitness and performance after their demanding encounter against Real Betis, insisting the team is fully recovered and in good shape.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Valdebebas, the Portuguese tactician addressed questions about the physical condition of his players following the intense La Liga fixture.
“How are the players after Betis? EXHAUSTED after the game, but pretty much recovered in Sunday’s training session, and today, PERFECTLY NORMAL,” Mourinho said.
The Real Madrid boss explained that while his squad felt the effects of the high-tempo match immediately after the final whistle, the medical and fitness staff have worked efficiently to restore the group to full readiness. He confirmed that Sunday’s recovery session was key, and that Monday’s session saw the team training at full intensity with no issues reported.
Mourinho also defended his team’s display against Betis, a match that had drawn mixed reactions from fans and pundits. The coach said a detailed review of the game had only reinforced his belief that Madrid performed to a high level.
“After analyzing our performance, we’re increasingly convinced that we PLAYED WELL,” he stated. “We played as a team, and what we missed was an ANOMALY. We’re in GOOD SHAPE.”
The comments underline Mourinho’s continued confidence in his tactical approach and squad unity. According to the Real Madrid coach, the result did not reflect the overall balance of play, with the team creating cohesion and control but lacking the decisive finish — something he described as an isolated anomaly rather than a systemic problem.
With crucial fixtures approaching in both La Liga and the Champions League, Mourinho’s message was clear: there is no physical crisis, no tactical crisis, and no dip in morale inside the dressing room. The squad is, in his words, perfectly normal and ready for the next challenge.
Mourinho, who has built his Madrid side around defensive solidity, quick transitions and collective work rate, reiterated that his players showed commitment and team spirit against Betis, and that those values remain intact.
Real Madrid will look to translate that good shape back into winning form in their next outing, with Mourinho expected to field a full-strength squad after confirming no new injury concerns from the Betis game.
