Shock in Kipkaren as Woman’s Body Found in Gunny Bag Inside Timber Yard, Two Arrested

Tension is high in Kipkaren estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town after the body of a 26-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a gunny bag in a timber yard.
The deceased has been identified as Lilian Chepkorir. Her body was discovered hidden inside the timber yard where three young men are said to have been residing in a makeshift structure.
Kesses Sub-County Police Commander Zephania Kamuren confirmed the incident, saying police were called to the scene after residents raised alarm over a foul smell and a suspicious sack concealed among timber offcuts.
“Her body was found in a gunny bag inside a timber yard. We have arrested two suspects to assist with investigations,” said Kamuren.
According to police, the scene was processed and the body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
The discovery attracted a large crowd of curious residents who milled around the yard as police officers cordoned off the area. The family of the victim was left in agony, with her mother Beatrice Chepchumba breaking down at the scene, describing her daughter as a humble and hardworking young woman.
Chepchumba is now calling for justice and swift action from investigative agencies.
Neighbours Christine Chemor and Annabel Chemos said they were shocked by the incident, noting that the area has been peaceful. They said the timber yard had in recent days been occupied by casual labourers whose backgrounds were not well known to the locals.
Residents said they became suspicious after noticing a foul odour and swarms of flies emanating from the yard before stumbling upon the gunny bag.
Preliminary investigations suggest the woman may have been murdered elsewhere before her body was stuffed in the sack and dumped in the yard in an attempt to hide the crime.
The incident adds to rising cases of femicide and gender-based violence in the North Rift. In the same village, a 20-year-old woman is nursing injuries after she was allegedly assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, despite having reported previous threats to the police.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information to come forward, while warning landlords and business owners to properly vet and register all tenants and workers residing in their premises.
The two suspects are being held at Kesses Police Station as detectives prepare to present them in court to seek custodial orders to complete investigations.
