Hundreds of needy students in Gem Siaya county will have an opportunity to further their Education after A Charitable Foundation, Tiji, donated school fees worth KSh. 10 million.
This follows an outcry from school principals who say the absence of CDF has seen many schools struggle to keep and feed learners in schools.
Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESHA) Gem Sub County Chairman Okoth Olando says the court ruling that rendered CDF unconstitutional had far reaching effects in the education sector.
“So many students were being supported under CDF and apart from that the fund was also supporting infrastructure in schools,” he said.
Olando, who is the Chief Principal St. Mary’s Yala, says they still have hope the legislators will make laws and policies to make CDF constitutional.
He says such support from charity foundations are God sent since they are aimed at keeping many learners in school.
Olando spoke at Nyawara Girls Secondary School on Tuesday during the issuance of cheques worth Sh. 10 million to cater for school fees to needy students in the Constituency.
Schools got funding ranging from Sh. 5,000 to Sh. 1.3 million.
Head of Tiji, Timothy Odende, says they are stepping in to fill in the gap left by CDF in a small way, to help schools remain a float.
Odende, a native of Gem, says they are piloting the new venture in the Sub County before rolling it out in Siaya County, to reach out to as many students
