The Bomet County Government has strengthened its investment in early childhood education by supplying new classroom furniture to Kapchemoino Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centre in Sigor Ward, Chepalungu Sub-County, as part of efforts to improve learning conditions for young children.

The furniture was officially handed over by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Youth, Sports and Vocational Training Patrick Maritim, who said the county remains committed to creating a conducive learning environment for learners enrolled in ECDE centres.

The initiative forms part of Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok’s broader education agenda, which focuses on improving infrastructure, expanding access to quality learning resources and strengthening foundational education across Bomet County.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Maritim said the classroom furniture was produced by trainees at the county’s Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), providing them with practical industrial experience while supporting learning institutions with locally manufactured products.

“The production of classroom furniture by our Vocational Training Centres enables trainees to gain valuable hands-on experience while supplying our ECDE centres with quality learning materials,” Maritim said. “This approach equips learners with practical skills that prepare them for employment and entrepreneurship.”

He noted that integrating vocational training with county development projects helps strengthen technical education while reducing procurement costs and creating opportunities for young people to earn an income during their training.

The county government has continued to promote enrolment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, saying the programmes equip young people with market-oriented skills that improve employability, encourage innovation and support self-employment.

According to the Department of Education, Youth, Sports and Vocational Training, the furniture distribution initiative demonstrates the county’s commitment to investing in both early childhood education and technical skills development.

County officials said improving ECDE infrastructure remains a priority, as quality learning environments play a critical role in enhancing children’s development during their formative years.

The latest distribution is expected to benefit learners and teachers at Kapchemoino ECDE Centre while showcasing the role of vocational training institutions in supporting community development through locally produced goods.

Bomet County has pledged to continue expanding similar initiatives across its ECDE centres as it seeks to improve education standards and ensure children have access to safe, well-equipped classrooms.
