Police in Migori Town have launched investigations after a security guard was killed during a robbery attack at a local entertainment joint on Sunday night, June 14.
According to reports, unknown criminals broke into the premises and stole property worth about Sh600,000, including television screens, a sound system, and other valuables.
The owner of the business, Mr. Philip Omondi, said he received a distressing call from a cleaner early Monday morning informing him that the premises had been broken into and one of the guards found dead.
“I was informed by my cleaner today morning that he had found our night guard dead and the business premises broken into,” said Omondi.
Omondi said he arrived at the scene and found the guard tied up and brutally killed by the attackers. He appealed to security agencies in Suna East Sub-County to strengthen security patrols and speed up investigations.
Research shows that cases of robbery and insecurity have been reported in several towns across Kenya in recent months, with business owners calling for increased police patrols and improved surveillance systems.
A Migori resident, Mr. Boy Osire, said residents were worried about growing insecurity in the town.
“How can people feel safe when someone is killed in the heart of the town where security should be guaranteed?” he asked.
Harriet Heilley confirmed that five suspects had been arrested.
“We currently have five suspects in custody who are assisting police with investigations,” she said.
She urged businesses to install CCTV cameras and proper security lighting to help reduce crime.
