The HSBC SVNS Series moves to Vancouver this weekend for the first of two decisive North American legs, with teams battling for crucial points ahead of the end-of-season Championship Series.
BC Place will host the tournament as both the men’s and women’s competitions intensify, with defending champions Argentina and New Zealand looking to retain their titles.
In the men’s standings, Singapore champions Fiji lead the table after finishing in the top three at every event this season. They are closely followed by South Africa, winners in Cape Town and Perth, and Dubai champions New Zealand. Olympic champions France sit just outside the top three, level on points with Australia, while Argentina aim to recover from a slow start.
Fiji will feature in Pool B alongside Australia, Argentina and France, while South Africa take on New Zealand, Spain and Great Britain in Pool A.
In the women’s competition, New Zealand hold a four-point lead over rivals Australia after reaching all four finals so far this season. USA, France, Canada and Japan are battling for third place as the series nears its climax.
Host nation Canada will look to capitalize on home support at BC Place, targeting a podium finish in front of their fans in what promises to be a vibrant and competitive weekend of rugby sevens.
