A former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Uasin Gishu County, Hon. Edwin Misoi, is fighting for his life at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital following a brutal attack in Eldoret’s Central Business District on Friday night.

Misoi was reportedly assaulted by individuals alleged to be associated with a vocal Member of Parliament in Uasin Gishu. The attack left him with serious head injuries and a fractured leg.

Admitted in Critical Condition

According to Dr. Simuyu Tabu, Head of the Emergency Department at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Misoi was rushed to the facility shortly before midnight.

“He arrived here a few minutes to midnight, around 11:30 to 11:37 p.m., and was immediately taken to the acute emergency unit,” said Dr. Tabu.

He confirmed that the former MCA sustained multiple injuries.

“He had blunt trauma to the head, chest and abdomen, as well as injuries to the left lower limb. We conducted the necessary CT scans and X-rays. He has moderate head injuries and a fracture of the left lower limb bone. His condition is currently stable,” Dr. Tabu stated.

He added that Misoi had been attended to by emergency physicians, general surgeons and neurosurgeons and would remain under close observation in the acute emergency room before being transferred to the neurosurgical ward.

Family Demands Justice

Misoi’s father, Wilson Korir, described the attack as an attempted murder and called on police to swiftly arrest those responsible.

“I received the report at around 6:00 a.m. He was beaten at around 11 p.m. with an object that had nails on it. When I came to see him, he was in a very bad condition,” said Korir.

He dismissed claims that the attack could have been linked to personal debts.

Wilson Korir, father of former MCA Edwin Misoi, speaks to the media outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, calling for justice following the attack on his son.

“If there were any debts, as a family we would have been ready to settle them. They should not beat or attempt to kill my son because of politics,” he said.

Korir further revealed that his son had previously raised concerns about threats to his life over his political stand in Kapseret Sub-County.

“I am demanding justice. All those involved in injuring my son must be arrested,” he added.

Rights Activists Raise Alarm

Human rights activist Kimutai Kirui, who was present at the hospital, condemned the incident, terming it part of a worrying pattern of political violence in Kapseret.

“This is not the first reported case of political goons attacking dissenting voices, especially in Kapseret Sub-County,” Kirui said.

He alleged the existence of organized groups funded by politicians.

“We have over 300 political goons in Eldoret who are being funded by politicians, some of whom are serving in the Uasin Gishu County Government,” he claimed.

Kirui also called for the immediate transfer of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Eldoret Central Police Station, Chief Inspector James Lenaso, accusing him of alleged political patronage.

Human rights activist Kimutai Kirui addresses the media outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, demanding the immediate transfer of Eldoret Central OCS Chief Inspector James Lenaso and calling for all reported cases of political violence to be expedited and prosecuted in court.

“If he is interested in politics, he should resign and join politics instead of serving in the security docket,” Kirui said.

He further alleged that a police vehicle was present during the assault but no arrests were made, though one motorbike was reportedly impounded.

“If the police are working closely with goons, will we still have a city?” he posed.

Kirui said the concerns had been escalated to the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner and urged the Inspector General of Police and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene urgently.

“Otherwise, we will hold peaceful demonstrations in Eldoret over the state of insecurity until the current OCS is transferred,” he warned.

Political Leaders Condemn Attack

Several political leaders in Uasin Gishu County condemned the attack and called for calm ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kapseret parliamentary aspirant Emmanuel Kemboi urged police to expedite investigations into all reported cases of political violence.

“The police must fast-track all cases involving victims of political attacks and ensure the perpetrators face the law,” Kemboi said.

Hon. Pauline Chelimo warned that continued political intolerance could lead to more casualties.

“We are asking leaders to desist from misusing our sons into acts of hooliganism. Those who attacked Hon. Edwin are well known. They are residents of Kapseret — we know their parents; they are our children,” she said.

Chelimo urged politicians to embrace peaceful campaigns.

“Residents of Kapseret and Uasin Gishu will ultimately decide their leaders at the ballot. Let us allow peaceful political competition,” she added.

She further claimed that several aspirants and their supporters had been threatened or attacked in the past year for holding divergent political views, and called on the Interior Ministry to rein in rogue politicians allegedly using hired groups to intimidate opponents.

Police Response

Turbo Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Simiyu assured residents that investigations were ongoing.

“We received the report and immediately dispatched officers to the scene to carry out investigations,” he said.

Simiyu emphasized that police remain neutral.

“We want to assure members of the public that the police are non-political. We will ensure that Hon. Edwin, who previously served as a youth representative in the Uasin Gishu County Assembly, gets justice,” he stated.

The attack has heightened tensions in Eldoret and reignited concerns over rising political intolerance in the run-up to the 2027 polls. Authorities are yet to announce any arrests in connection with the incident.
