An Eldoret based Human Rights Activist with The centre Against Torture , Kimutai Kirui now claims his life is in danger.
Speaking to the press Kirui said this is connected to the role he played in exposing an Eldoret based recruitment agency that has been under scrutiny for failing to secure Jobs for over 4,000 youth who were promised Qatar jobs before the 2022 FIFA world cup.
“I want to say without fear of contradiction that my life is in danger this is after I un earthed underhand deals of recruitment agency that has duped thousands of youth seeking employment at the concluded World Cup games in which they never travelled,and many of them were never refunded their monies and have now been left helpless, ” he said
“I have been receiving threats from prominent people who are well connected, I have already reported the threats at Eldoret Central Police Station in the company of other human rights activists,I want to affirm that we will continue to push for the rights of these young Kenyans despite the threats,” the Eldoret based Human Rights Activist said.
This comes after the Uasin Gishu County Assembly ad hoc committee concluded interviewing key persons named in a petition filed against the First Choice recruitment Agency that has been faulted for failing to meet its end of the bargain forcing many job seekers into dismay.
The recruitment agency was at the centre of World Cup Qatar jobs promise,where youth are said to have paid out between ksh 40,000 and ksh 400,000 to secure various job opportunities abroad .
The Human right activist has urged the police to investigate the threats to his life and take immediate action,
“I have been taking these threats lightly, but last week I got worried when two men sandwiched me outside an Eldoret hotel and warned me against interfering with the recruitment agency in question,failure to which my body will be retrieved from a river ” claimed Mr Kirui.
Uasin Gishu youth chairman Collins Kemboi urged police not to take the security concerns raised by the activist lightly.
“we appeal to the police to investigate the allegations by Mr Kirui because he has been one of the most vocal activists in this county and we believe he has many enemies,His right to life must be guaranteed ”said Kemboi.
The Turbo Sub County police commander Edward Masibo has promised investigations into the matter.
Kimutai Kirui has had a track record for the advancement of Human rights and access to justice.
