The Ministry of Water and Sanitation has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening governance and accelerating the delivery of water and sanitation services across the country following a high-level meeting with the newly appointed Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) Board.
The meeting, held today at CIC Plaza in Nairobi, brought together the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation and Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, CBS, alongside the new Board members led by Chairperson Dr. Erick K. Rutto. Senior management from the Water Fund also attended.
During the engagement, discussions centered on the Board’s mandate to provide strategic direction, policy guidance, fiduciary oversight, and strong financial governance. The leaders emphasized that effective stewardship is key to ensuring that the WaterFund remains accountable and delivers on its core mission of supporting water, sanitation, and climate-resilient community projects—particularly in underserved and vulnerable regions.
The Cabinet Secretary underscored the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Board to enhance resource mobilization, strengthen institutional systems, and scale up impactful projects aimed at improving access to safe water and sustainable sanitation solutions nationwide.
WSTF plays a pivotal role in the sector, channeling resources to communities to help them secure clean water, adopt sustainable sanitation practices, and build resilience against droughts, floods, and other climate-related challenges. The Ministry expressed confidence that the new Board will provide the leadership needed to advance these goals and deliver tangible benefits to Kenyans.
The meeting concluded with a shared pledge to deepen collaboration and accelerate the implementation of initiatives that safeguard water security and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
