Five top-performing principals and teachers from schools within Kiharu Constituency have been flagged off for a fully-sponsored benchmarking trip to Dubai, marking yet another milestone in the Masomo Bora education programme championed by the area MP Ndindi Nyoro. The annual initiative was designed to reward educators for outstanding performance and commitment to academic excellence.

An advance team of teachers left earlier in the week, with Ndindi Nyoro’s spokesman, Antony Warui, leading the send-off ceremony at the airport. Warui noted that the programme has been consistent since its inception, with deliberate investment in teachers’ professional growth boosting morale in public schools in the constituency.

Warui said that the Dubai benchmarking tours were launched in 2022 and that each year, some of the best performing educators are selected to benefit. “The trip is paid for by Ndindi Nyoro as a form of motivating teachers and rewarding them for their effort,” he said. He added that the trip is carefully structured to ensure participants engage with globally recognized learning institutions, interact with international educators, and gain new insights that can be applied back home to improve learning outcomes.

Those chosen for the trip included Beatrice Wachira, Head Teacher of Technology Primary School. Wachira urged her colleagues to embrace self-drive and work hard since consistent effort always attracts recognition. “I tell other head teachers to embrace self-drive and hard work because once you do that, somebody is always there to reward that,” she said.

Esther Macharia of Githangara Primary School, who qualified for the tour for her subject recording one of the most impressive improvements, commended the Masomo Bora programme for offering holistic support to the learners and teachers. “I appreciate Ndindi Nyoro for making learning smooth for the learners by aiding the classes, paying tuition fees, providing lunch, and also remembering the teachers because they are always forgotten,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Francis Waithaka, Head Teacher at Mbari ya Hiti Primary School, said he was grateful and upbeat as he made his final preparations. Waithaka emphasized that educational excellence requires determination and consistent effort. “I am eager to learn a lot from the trip and apply the lessons back home,” he said, adding that academic success is a product of hard work rather than chance.

Earlier this year, the Masomo Bora programme selected 11 principals from day secondary schools for a similar benchmarking tour, making it one of the largest groups to participate in the initiative so far. The Dubai trip is designed as a professional development mission rather than a leisure excursion. The educators will visit learning facilities, observe modern teaching technologies, and explore international best practices in school management and instructional methods. Upon their return, the teachers are expected to disseminate the knowledge gained, introduce new approaches in their respective schools, and contribute to continuous improvement in academic performance and student welfare across Kiharu.
