Malava parliamentary aspirant Seth Panyako has raised an alarm over what he claims is a deliberate attempt to disrupt a political meeting he intends to hold tomorrow. In an elaborate statement issued on Friday, Panyako pointed accusing fingers at several high-ranking county officials and political advisors of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at interfering with the meeting.

Panyako accused them of holding a closed-door meeting on Thursday afternoon that was attended by Governor Barasa and a handful of his confidants where money was allegedly doled out with the aim of hiring groups to attend the meeting and disrupt the proceedings. According to Panyako, the plot entailed the mobilization of students coupled with hiring of other groups specifically aimed at disrupting the meeting’s proceedings.

He singled out Leah Khasandi and Saidi Kasavuli, identified as advisors to the governor, alongside Chief Officer Lawrence Mukoyani, whom he accused of receiving a total of KSh 1.5 million. The money was reportedly meant to facilitate the recruitment of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology students, who were supposed to take strategic positions at the front of the venue and disrupt speakers during the proceedings.

Panyako further claimed that the planners of the alleged plot had also received a group of 30 youth from Kondele in Kisumu, whom he said were brought in to increase tension and possibly spark conflicts targeting senior political leaders expected at the forum. He insisted that these actions were intended to create chaos and overshadow the main purpose of the meeting.

In his speech, Panyako issued a strong warning to his perceived sympathizers of the alleged plot, saying, “Mtajua hamjui,” which means the perpetrators will one day be known. He did not, however, produce any documents or evidence to support his assertions.

Attempts to get comments from the individuals Panyako mentioned—Khasandi, Kasavuli, and Mukoyani—were unsuccessful at the time of preparing this report. Meanwhile, county leadership has not issued any formal statement addressing the allegations, leaving many questions unanswered. Security agencies have not confirmed whether any investigations have begun on the claims. Political analysts point out that Panyako’s accusations emerge at a time when political activity in this region is rapidly intensifying, with various contenders angling to place themselves in favourable positions as campaigns heat up. They add that allegations of disruption, intimidation, or interference often emerge in highly competitive political environments, though verifying such may always be a challenge without official inquiries.
