Former NCIC Vice Chair Wambui Nyutu has come out to state the reason why she resigned from the government. She cited escalating cases of extrajudicial killings.
On Kameme TV on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Nyutu expressed that the government is responsible for shedding innocent blood.
Her conscience, she added, could no longer keep mum.
“I no longer support the government,” she cried to the interviewer.
Nyutu reiterated that the killings of Gen Z youth made her protest.
“If they’re killing Gen Zs, my siblings, why should I keep quiet?” she asked.
She had been in the support of the government and even held high public offices.
Her statement joins the increasing dissatisfaction by former allies of President Ruto.
The backlash comes after countrywide demonstrations by the youths.
The protesters have complained about high taxation, joblessness, and police violence.
Nyutu added that she exited to protest against the silence of the government on police killings.
“I would rather walk away than stay silent when lives are being wasted,” she stated.
She now intends to struggle for justice outside of government.
Nyutu urged other past politicians to join her in having their voices heard too.
She says silence only protects impunity.
“Hopefully, my voice will encourage other people to open their mouths,” she said.
Nyutu wouldn’t comment on whether she will return to activism or venture into politics.
But her no-nonsense message points to a bold reversal.
She is now among the toughest critics from within the government.
As citizens pile pressure, additional protests or resignations may follow.
Nyutu’s message resonates in a public that is hungry for change and responsibility.
Her resignation is a sign of heightened frustration in Kenya’s leadership.
She said young lives are worth more than political loyalty.
And to her, standing up for truth instead of silence was the choice.
