Cash-strapped Moi University In Eldoret  has agreed to settle a medical bill
amounting to Sh168 million to a top private hospital in Eldoret town
for medical services rendered to its staff and their spouses.

In a consent signed between the public learning institution and
Mediheal hospital before Justice Eric Ogola of Eldoret High Court
today, the university committed to pay Sh2 million every month until
the whole amount owed to the hospital is paid in full.

Justice Ogola, who presided over the matter, consented the agreement
as an order of the court.

The hospital owned by former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra moved to court
two years ago after the university defaulted to pay the money owed to
it for medical services rendered to its 3,000 staff and their spouses.

According to the court document, the university had entered into an
arrangement with the private hospital ten years ago whereby its staff
and spouses were to be treated at the facility.

Lawyer Aloo Romana represented the hospital in the suit while Lawyer
Eric Liyali represented the financially crippled public university in
the matter.

Liyali told the court that his client was ready and willing to abide
by the signed agreement regarding the payment of pending medical bills
to the hospital estimated at Sh168 million.

This was after the lawyer for the hospital raised concern over failure
by the university to clear the outstanding medical bill despite
several reminders.

However, the judge intervened by telling the hospital management that
they were at liberty to come back to court in event the university
defaulted on its agreement to settle the medical bill as agreed.
