The Safaricom Foundation has today unveiled the seventh season of its flagship community empowerment initiative, ndoto zetu, at a colorful ceremony held at Eldoret Special School.

The program, first launched in 2019, empowers communities to propose and implement projects aimed at transforming lives in the areas of education, health, and economic empowerment.

Speaking during the launch, Safaricom Foundation’s leadership expressed pride in the program’s impact over the past six seasons. “Since we began, we have invested KSh 500 million, positively impacting over 3 million people across Kenya. Through this investment, we have supported and completed around 1,800 community projects,” they noted.

For Season 7, Safaricom Foundation has allocated an additional KSh 100 million, inviting new applications from community groups, institutions, and individuals with projects that benefit local communities. Interested applicants can apply online via the Safaricom Foundation website or collect physical forms at Safaricom retail shops nationwide.

“Every year, we typically receive between 4,000 and 6,000 applications and end up supporting between 300 and 400 projects. It’s incredibly inspiring to see the dedication and creativity of Kenyans who wish to uplift their own neighborhoods,” the Foundation observed.

The ndoto zetu program originated from Safaricom’s employee engagement initiative, which encouraged staff members to champion causes close to their hearts within their communities. Building on that idea, the Foundation decided to open the opportunity to all Kenyans.

Highlighting the choice of Eldoret Special School as the venue, Safaricom praised the institution for its commitment to educating and empowering boys and girls with special needs. “It’s a fantastic school with dedicated teachers equipping students with practical skills tailored to their abilities. We have supported this school before, and we pledge to continue doing so,” the team added.

Beyond philanthropy, Safaricom emphasized its broader commitment to the country. “We support Kenya’s passion points like sports and music, run the two largest foundations — Safaricom Foundation and M-Pesa Foundation — and drive financial inclusion through M-Pesa, processing over 100 million transactions daily,” they stated.

In conclusion, Safaricom urged communities across the 47 counties to seize this opportunity and apply for support. “Together, we can continue building a better Kenya,” they affirmed.
