Bomet County is mourning the untimely death of its Chief Officer for Finance, CPA Erick Chepkwony, who collapsed and died on Wednesday evening.
His sudden passing was confirmed by medical personnel and later by Bomet Governor Dr. Hillary Barchok.
Governor Barchok expressed deep sorrow, stating that Chepkwony’s death is a significant loss to the county government.
“This is devastating to our county. His service and dedication were impactful, and we will remember his life just like yeast—quiet but transformative,” Barchok said.
Chepkwony’s career in Bomet County began in December 2022 when he was appointed Chief Officer for Cooperatives. He was later transferred to the Public Works department before taking up the Finance portfolio in September 2023, where he served until his demise.
In addition to his role in the county, Chepkwony also served as the National Vice Chairperson of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), contributing to the development of the tea sector in Kenya.
Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei joined in mourning, describing Chepkwony as a loyal and committed public servant. “His contribution to public service had a positive impact on government operations. His legacy will remain with us,” Senator Sigei noted.

His untimely departure is a great loss not only to the County Government of Bomet but also to the KTDA fraternity. His dedication to public service and professionalism will be remembered,” Koech wrote.
