The Uasin Gishu county has hinted at forcing street families to undergo Family planning as way of controlling their ever increasing numbers.
Speaking to the press Uasin Gishu county Assembly leader of majority Julius Sang says the move will reduce the number of street urchins in Eldoret CBD that are currently estimated to be over 3,000.
The Leader of majority has called on the ministry of health to put together a team to look into the increased number of street children in Eldoret town and ways to curb it.

“I don’t know if it’s illegal but I want the ministry of health to send people to street family’s and force family planning on them to stop the increasing number of young families on the streets, “said Julius Sang while addressing journalists at the County headquarters.
The majority leader expressed his disapproval of meeting young girls on the streets with Children on their backs looking for a means to survive.
“Everywhere you go you find young girls in the streets pregnant and they do not have the means to provide for themselves nor their children with .We cannot allow these to continue happening
The majority leader added that the increased number of street urchin has continued to pose security threats with the town,
However human right defenders and a section of the street families have sharply condemned the proposal to force use of family planning saying it was against their human rights,
“We are saddened by such regrettable remarks from the leader of majority at the Uasin Gishu County assembly, what the Street families need is to be educated on the need to take up family planning m they can decide for themselves” Said Peter Njenga who works with Ex- street children Community based organization
