The government has been called upon to deploy, officers from the recently created police unit across Kenyan cities and urban areas, to help in ending the increasing crime
Members of the civil society Network in Kisumu County have expressed concern over the latest criminal trends, insisting that, the insecurity in Kenya should be dealt with, as a national concern not only within the capital city Nairobi
Adressing the press on Friday , Mourine Kemunto , the CSO networks members have cited increased cases of house breakings muggings and day time robberies, as a matter that should be of concern to both the county and the national governments
‘It is worrying that around Kisumu these days, robberies are happening in the estates as early as seven in the evening, with little effort from the police and security agencies in the neighborhoods”
Mourine says that, that as a civil society they are worried at the way police officers have been slow to respond, even in cases where they are alerted in good time,
“Could they be on a go slow, is there a silent message the officers are trying to pass to Kenyans, and if so for how long?”
On the other hand Mirriam Abdalla, from Nyalenda and a member of the network, has expressed worry, that the increased number of criminal activity in the commercial centers is now a threat to business and development
‘Just recently a shop keeper was stabbed and killed around Tien’gre, where a neighbor who responded was also shot , the same night a lady trader was robbed and stabbed outside her home in Obambo area , so many others are at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga teachings and referral hospital with serious injuries” she said
Let the newly created team of officers and such security patrols we have been seeing be, rolled out across Kenya, for the sake of all residents and business persons
The civil society members have issued a seven day notice warning that, they would mobilize residents to protest, if no action would be taken
