Members of the Public In Uasin Gishu County and the North rift region have been urged to demand for better service delivery from both County and National Government officers,
The URAI-UNDP in collaboration with the Rural Women Peace Link Thursday held a Forum with State and non- state actors to discuss the available accountability tools that can be used to promote governance and accountability in the management of Public resources while holding leaders accountable on service delivery.
Collins Lutah An Officer with the Rural Women Peace Link Organization noted that there was need to empower members of the public with the legal knowledge that can be used through a litigation process to demand better service delivery,
“This program is about consolidating democratic dividend for sustainable transformation in Kenya, We want to see that there is accountability between the service providers across board, Ensure that departments Within the County Governments are providing adequate services to the as is required by law and as is expected of them” Said Lutah.
Lutah further added that they are also looking into the legal frame works including the laws that are available for the people to engage with the county governments, we are also explaining how the law supports the mwananchi to engage with the county governments through Public participation,
In addition the forum that also brought together civil society organizations and journalists explored the available tools for social accountability including the community score cards so as to enable the public to evaluate the services being provided by the county governments.

“We are looking at what responsibility the mwananchi has , as governors put their governments into place , we want to see a system where these governments are working closely with mwananchi because we have harmonized the governors manifestos and the people’s needs , we are looking at where wananchi are getting services be it in the health sector , are dispensaries well stocked with drugs do we have enough human resource in those facilities , these are the areas we are keen about”Said Luta.
Lutah noted that they will be working closely with other organizations such as Transparency International, Civil Society’ the Media among other organizations to ensure that service delivery is optimized at the grass root level.
