14 Counties of Rift Valley to Form a Joint Economic Block

The structure of the North Rift Economic Bloc will be anchored in the legal framework by November even as three other counties declare interest to join in.
Member counties who met in an inaugural summit in Eldoret on Friday resolved to conclude with setting up and anchoring structures within legal framework by November.
“It is time we set the structures and policies on legal framework and I think it is encouraging that we have a strict timeline,” said Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii.
Also, heads of member counties said they want to turn around the lacklustre of insecurity by tackling banditry through a multi-faceted approach, an activity that will culminate in christening volatile valley as “valley of peace.”

Governors Stephen Sang (Nandi), who was today elected the NOREB interim chair noted that the fourteen counties of the Rift-valley would be joining the Economic block in a bold move that is targeted at bolstering Economic abilities of the counties .
The Bloc will jointly promote tourism and with the support of the National Government address challenges of insecurity in the Kerio Valley belt.
Other governors present in the inaugural session include George Natembeya (Trans Nzoia), Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet) Turkana Governor Jeremiah Ekamais among other officials.
Meanwhile, at least three more counties could join Noreb, with Kericho, Narok, Nakuru and Laikipia already having declared interest to join in.
The region is currently made up of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu and Baringo.
