Kenya’s President Ruto Launches Major Infrastructure Projects in Kirinyaga County

In a significant step toward empowering local businesses and expanding access to essential services, President William Ruto has announced the construction of several key infrastructure projects in Kirinyaga County.
These initiatives aim to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents, particularly in rural areas.
During his visit to Kagio in Kirinyaga County, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the KSh310 million Kagio Market, a state-of-the-art facility designed to transform the way informal traders operate in the region.
The new market is set to provide a dignified and well-organized environment for 750 traders, enabling them to conduct business more efficiently and access better opportunities for growth.
Speaking at the event, President Ruto emphasized the importance of providing traders with modern, well-equipped spaces to help them transition from the informal economy to the formal sector.
He pointed out that such initiatives will not only enhance the livelihoods of small-scale entrepreneurs but also contribute to the overall growth of the national economy.
“The construction of modern fresh produce markets across the country is one of our key priorities. We are committed to creating conducive environments that empower our people and enable them to thrive in their businesses,” Ruto said.
In addition to the market project, President Ruto also launched a KSh500 million Last Mile Connectivity project aimed at connecting 6,200 households to the national electricity grid.
This initiative is expected to improve access to power for many homes, which will, in turn, facilitate better living conditions and support local economic activities.
The project is part of the government’s broader agenda to increase electricity access across the country.
President Ruto revealed that an additional KSh400 million would be allocated to expand the project, with the aim of connecting a total of 11,000 homes to electricity.
“We are focused on ensuring that every Kenyan, regardless of where they live, has access to reliable electricity. This is crucial for education, healthcare, and economic development,” he noted.
Both projects are seen as vital for Kirinyaga County’s growth, providing new opportunities for local businesses and households.
The development of Kagio Market and the expansion of electricity access are expected to foster greater economic stability and improve living standards for thousands of residents.
