World Rugby has released the match schedule for the inaugural World Rugby Nations Cup, which will debut across July and November 2026.
The competition’s first-ever match will take place on 4 July in Montevideo, where Uruguay will host Georgia in a high-stakes opener between two sides currently ranked inside the global top 15.
The tournament brings together 12 unions that have qualified for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, offering a structured annual competition designed to accelerate development and deliver meaningful test fixtures.
Running in parallel with the Nations Championship, the Nations Cup forms part of rugby’s new global calendar, ensuring emerging unions have consistent access to elite competition.
Teams are divided into two pools of six, mirroring the Nations Championship format.
Pool A (Americas & Pacific) features Canada, Chile, Samoa, Tonga, Uruguay, and the USA.
Pool B (Europe, Asia & Africa) includes Georgia, Hong Kong China, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Zimbabwe.
Each union will play cross-pool fixtures throughout July and November, with combined standings determining the 2026 champions.
The July window will showcase 18 matches across North and South America, highlighting passionate rugby regions in Denver, Charlotte, Santiago, Montevideo, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.
North America alone will host nine fixtures, providing unprecedented access to top-tier international rugby ahead of the USA’s hosting of Rugby World Cup 2031.
World Rugby will also provide bespoke support to Tonga and Samoa to enable their participation outside home venues, while assisting Fiji as they contest Nations Championship fixtures in the UK.
