Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf left Old Trafford at half-time during a pre-season friendly against Lyon after learning of a serious accident involving his young son.

According to his wife, Maja Nilsson Lindelöf, their son suffered a severe head injury that required immediate medical attention and plastic surgery.

Maja shared the distressing news on social media, revealing that their son had “split his entire head open,” prompting Lindelöf to rush to the hospital mid-match. She described the experience as deeply traumatising for the family.

“He had to leave the game at half-time and come to the hospital because we had a very traumatic day,” she wrote, adding that their child was now recovering but had endured a terrifying ordeal.

The football community has since rallied around the Lindelöf family, sending messages of support and well wishes. Manchester United has not yet released an official statement, but the club is understood to be offering full support to the player and his family during this difficult time.

While the incident cast a shadow over the friendly fixture, fans were united in their concern and hope for the young boy’s swift recovery. Lindelöf’s swift departure highlights the importance of family above all else.
