Uasin Gishu residents have asked the government to prioritize allocating funds to enhance access to electricity, clean water, farming and better healthcare in the 2025/2026 budget.
The locals listed the areas during a public participation forum that was presided over by National Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee Chairperson Samuel Atandi.
Speaking after the forum, Atandi said the government is planning to finance several development projects in the area in the coming financial year.
Regional projects being considered involve building roads, setting up hospitals and introducing educational programs.
“The budget which is presented before us by the executive totals to about KSh 4.2 trillion, national government is going to spend KSh 2.5 trillion, county government are going to spend KSh 405 billion and 1trillion is going to be used to pay interests on debts and 300 billion on pensions and constitutional commissions,’’Atandi explained.
“We are going to borrow about 800 Billion largely, most of them are going to come from local domestic, we are expecting very little from foreign borrowing, in fact when you look at the estimates we have not factored any borrowing from IMF,” Atandi added.
Rising debt and borrowing were challenges to last year’s budget; this year’s approach tries to address those issues by practicing stricter financial discipline and aiming to benefit local communities.
