Athletes in Uasin Gishu County have been urged to avoid doping in order to protect their careers and maintain the integrity of the sport.
Farouk Kibet, the sponsor of the Chepsaita Cross Country Race, highlighted the unfortunate trend where many promising athletes have been disqualified from international competitions due to doping violations.
He made these remarks over the weekend following the completion of the second edition of the Marathon.
During his address, Kibet also encouraged established athletes to mentor and support emerging talents to help them succeed in their careers. He emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation of athletes to ensure their success both in sport and in life.
Kibet further assured that the government is committed to supporting young athletes, noting that the country is home to more than 52 training facilities that provide the necessary skills and resources.
He also announced plans to establish a sports academy in the region, recognizing the vital role athletes have played in elevating Kenya’s name on the international stage.
Faith Kipyegon, an internationally renowned athlete, expressed her belief that even without the ideal resources, young athletes, including those running barefoot, have the potential to succeed and win.
The event was attended by athletes who braved the cold weather to either compete or offer support.
The atmosphere was vibrant with music and celebrations as both young and senior participants were awarded prizes as recognition for their efforts.
The race was graced by Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Professor Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Kipchumba Murkomen, and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim, among other dignitaries.
