The government of Kenya has committed to enhancing the digital and communications sector through the development of new legal frameworks which will adapt to emerging technological advancements.

The Kenya Information and Communications Act amendment process reached its current status during the meeting which William Kabogo Gitau received from the presenter about the activities underway to implement 15 draft regulations that will enhance ICT industry governance and operational performance throughout the country.

The proposed amendments will improve regulatory control through their establishment of better sector coordination while existing laws will be updated to match modern technological developments and industry needs.

The Cabinet Secretary provided both directives for future actions and specific recommendations to improve the proposed legislation during the meeting.

The ministry states that legal framework updates are necessary to sustain Kenya’s digital economy growth while protecting consumers and promoting competitive markets and creating a favorable environment for ICT sector investment.

The briefing session featured attendance from John Kipchumba Tanui who serves as Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy and Stephen Isaboke and Information Secretary Temesi Mukani and officials from the Communications Authority of Kenya.
