National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, to participate in the Second Brazil-Africa Dialogue on Food Security, a high-level forum aimed at enhancing cooperation between African nations and Brazil on hunger eradication and sustainable agriculture.

The forum, which commenced on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, brings together senior leaders and policymakers from across the Global South to forge partnerships and develop shared strategies to address food insecurity.

Speaker Wetang’ula joined Brazilian President H.E. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, First Lady Rosângela Lula da Silva, and Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, for the official opening ceremony.

Speaker Wetang’ula is leading a Kenyan delegation that includes Hon. Sabina Chege, Hon. Zaheer Jhanda (MP for Nyaribari Chache), and Mr. Stephen Apopo, Director and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Speaker.

During the summit, the Kenyan delegation is expected to hold talks with global and regional partners on sustainable agricultural practices and climate-resilient food systems.

The team will also explore avenues to deepen Kenya’s bilateral cooperation with Brazil, particularly in agricultural technology transfer, rural development, and food value chain enhancement.“Kenya is committed to building resilient food systems and ending hunger.

Our presence here demonstrates the importance we place on international cooperation and learning from successful models,” Speaker Wetang’ula said on the sidelines of the forum.

The visit underscores Kenya’s broader efforts to collaborate with international allies in tackling food insecurity, which remains a pressing issue in many African countries due to climate change, economic instability, and disrupted supply chains.

The Brazil-Africa Dialogue serves as a platform to share experiences, promote agricultural innovation, and mobilize resources to achieve sustainable development goals related to hunger and nutrition.
