President Ruto Leads High-Level Talks on Africa Green Industrialisation

President William Ruto on Thursday convened a high-level consultative meeting at State House, Nairobi, to advance the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), under his leadership as Chair of the African Union’s Heads of State and Government on Climate Change.
The discussions focused on mobilising local and regional private sector capital to identify critical, bankable green projects aimed at accelerating Africa’s industrialisation.
President Ruto emphasised the importance of sustainable development and green investment in driving the continent’s economic transformation.
Key participants included Prof Pierre Moukoko, Head of the AU Reform Implementation Unit, representing AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
Also in attendance were African Continental Free Trade Area Secretary-General Wamkele Mene, Africa50 CEO Alain Ebobissé, and Haytham Elmaayergi, Executive Vice-President of AfriExim Bank.
Leading figures from the financial sector also joined the talks, including James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Bank Group; Dr Joshua Oigara, CEO of Standard Bank; Jeremy Awori, CEO of Ecobank Transnational; and Paul Russo, CEO of Kenya Commercial Bank.
Other notable participants were Frankline Edochie, Director and Head of Metals and Mining at the Africa Finance Corporation, and Dr Alex Mubiru, Director-General for East Africa Regional Development at the African Development Bank.
The meeting aimed to align financial institutions and development partners with Africa’s industrialisation agenda through green investment strategies.
The initiative is expected to catalyse large-scale green infrastructure projects, create jobs, and enhance regional trade under the AfCFTA framework.
President Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to championing climate-smart development, positioning Africa as a global leader in sustainable industrialisation.
