President William Ruto has praised the outstanding performances of Kenyan athletes at the 2025 Boston Marathon, describing their victories as a moment of national pride and a historic achievement in global athletics.

In a message shared on his verified social media accounts on Monday, April 21, 2025, President Ruto lauded John Korir for his remarkable victory in the men’s race, where he clocked an impressive 2:04:45. The time is now the second-fastest winning mark in the marathon’s prestigious 129-year history.

“Well done John Korir for your remarkable victory at the 2025 Boston Marathon,” the president stated. “Your performance demonstrated the resilience, determination, and spirit that define champions.”

Korir’s win marks a significant milestone not just for his personal career but also for Kenya’s enduring legacy in long-distance running.

The president also commended Cyprian Kotut, who finished third in the men’s race, for his strong performance and for proudly flying the Kenyan flag on the international stage.

“Bravo Cyprian Kotut for securing third position and proudly flying the Kenyan flag high,” Ruto wrote.

The president extended his congratulations to Sharon Lokedi, who triumphed in the women’s race and set a new course record in the process. Lokedi’s commanding victory reaffirmed Kenya’s dominance in distance running and highlighted the exceptional talent emerging from the country’s female athletes.
