ODM will continue to be part of Kenya’s broad-based government until the 2027 general election, Kisii Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati has confirmed.

During a public rally in Nakuru County, Arati told party supporters that the collaboration between ODM and the current government is meant to enhance national unity and development. He explained that the partnership did not mean ODM had compromised its values or was set to dissolve into the ruling UDA.

Arati said the decision to remain in the broad-based government was informed by the party’s commitment to ensuring that all Kenyans benefit from inclusive governance. “Our involvement is not driven by political convenience,” he emphasized. “We want to make sure the people we represent have a voice in key national matters.”

He further called on the youths to remain politically active and start getting ready for the 2027 elections. Arati explained that youths are very instrumental in determining the political destiny of Kenya. “The youth must take charge of their future. Don’t just complain—register, vote, and be part of the transformation,” he said.

Disputing claims of how ODM has abandoned its opposition role, Arati maintained that the party still champions transparency, justice, and accountability, even as it engages in cooperation with the government. “Working together doesn’t mean silence. True leadership involves collaboration while still holding others accountable,” he said.

ODM’s sustained involvement in the broad-based government has polarised opinion within its ranks, with some members thinking that it enhances political stability and unity, while others are concerned that this could erode the party’s independence as the 2027 polls approach.

In Homa Bay, this position was supported by party leaders led by Governor Gladys Wanga, who noted that it aligns with the late Raila Odinga’s vision for inclusive, reform-driven politics. Wanga also reiterated that ODM would continue to promote good governance and substantive reforms in the run-up to the coming general election.
