The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has once more promised to offer every athlete equal opportunity in the selection process for Team Kenya for several upcoming international events. The events include the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, among other future games.
NOC-K chairman Shadrack Maluki made the pledge in a sitting with the Parliamentary Sports Committee Chair, Dan Wanyama. The two held consultations on how the two institutions can work together to promote fairness, transparency, and athlete-informed policies in sports.
Maluki stressed that NOC-K will never compromise on the welfare of athletes. “Our mission is simple. We must protect the welfare of our athletes, improve their training, and enhance their opportunities. When we work with Parliament, we can align our goals with national policy. That way, we can ensure that sports remain a platform for youth empowerment, health, national cohesion, and economic development,” he declared.
The committee also promised to enhance its mandate in scouting and nurturing talent across all the counties. The intention is to make sure that no athlete from Kenya is left behind in the sporting career of the nation. NOC-K believes that talent exists anywhere, and equal opportunity is the ideal tool to build good teams for international events.
For his own part, Dan Wanyama promised unflinching support from Parliament. He noted that his committee has a constitutional requirement to facilitate the growth of sports in Kenya. “Our mandate is clear. We vet legislation, inspect sporting fields, and verify projects sponsored by paying citizens. With NOC-K, we open ourselves up to come up with improved systems and structures. The systems will allow our athletes to compete at their levels best,” he explained.
Wanyama added that sports should unite the nation, empower youth, and contribute towards economic development. He praised NOC-K for staying focused on serving athletes and pledged that Parliament will collaborate closely with the committee to achieve these goals.
The two leaders agreed that there will be peace between Parliament and NOC-K, and it will determine the future of Kenyan sport. With well-organized systems, transparency, and equity, they believe that Kenyan athletes will continue to brighten the globe.
