The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) is training male champions to promote the meaningful engagement of women in peace and security initiatives.

The meeting held at the Redeemed Church Conference Centre in Eldoret brought together men from all sub-counties of Uasin Gishu County to provide training on promoting meaningful engagement of women in peace and security.

Males were urged to acknowledge the privileges that women hold and understand that the causes of gender inequality are universal.

While speaking during the meeting, Linda Madegwa from the State Department of Gender said that males should avoid gender biases to promote equality and promote women’s leadership in peace.

‘’invite women into conversation, promote equal opportunities and address inequalities to promote women leadership in peace and security’’. She said.

After the training Alfred Limo from Youth Senate Kenya expressed his happiness about being part of the training and said that they have learned a lot through the meeting and  he is better equipped on  how  to assist women in terms of ensuring they are secure.

‘’We are happy having undergone a training with NCCK. In support of the UN Women initiative we have learned a lot from this session as men champions on how we can assist  women in ensuring they play a key role in  ensuring there is peace and security’’. He said.

Willy Tanui, representative for people living with disabilities, noted that women’s voices should be  enhanced .

‘’I have learned that we should involve women in meetings happening even in the village to give their views and support those in power’’. He stated.

As people living with disabilities, we thank NCCK for having this forum so that we can be together with other populations. He added.

The National Council of Churches of Kenya  are looking forward to fostering ecumenism at national, regional and community level to strengthen joint action by churches on matters of common concern and also seeks to facilitate the attainment of a united, just, peaceful and sustainable society.
