The Governor of Nyeri County Mutahi Kahiga mandated an instant closure for all town bars because of increasing public alarm about illegal alcohol distribution and consumption. The directive comes because the authorities are worried about the increasing number of residents who face health dangers from drinking contaminated and dangerous alcoholic beverages.

The governor ordered the County Alcoholic Drinks Control Licensing Committee to nullify all active bar permits without delay through his announcement. The establishment needs this procedure to start an evaluation process which will assess which businesses should return to service. The county officials announced their need for this operation to restore order through active enforcement against illegal activities which endanger public safety.

Kahiga expressed his frustration about the problem while explaining that the ongoing discussions and planning efforts had not succeeded in solving the issue. He stated that enforcement actions represented the only remaining option because unsafe alcohol consumption caused deaths while authorities took their time to make decisions. His statements demonstrated urgent needs while showing the county government intends to implement strong measures.

The governor required all bars in the town center to reduce their operations to only ten locations which his reforms establish as a new limit. The decision exists to control the industry by reducing the unrestricted establishment of liquor stores which he believes creates conditions for illegal alcohol manufacturing.

Kahiga determined that the small trading center which contains fewer than 20000 inhabitants should not have 30 operating establishments which include bars and liquor stores. He disclosed that some businesses operated without proper licenses while others used fake papers to continue their business operations under the watch of county enforcement staff.

The governor highlighted Gatitu as a major issue because reports showed the locality contained 38 functioning bars which he called too many and intolerable. He ordered all local businesses to shut down immediately while inspections and investigations take place.

The licensing committee will now work together with county enforcement officers to evaluate all current applications. The bar owners who achieve the necessary requirements will receive new permits while those who fail to meet standards will receive permanent operating bans.

The town has suspended all liquor distribution permits until the upcoming review process gets completed. The governor delivered a strong warning that his government would take action against anyone who engaged in producing or selling or distributing illegal alcohol. The county will not permit residents to be exposed to hazardous substances despite legal challenges against the directive from unsatisfied individuals and businesses.
