The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has issued an official call to secondary schools across the country to register for the 2026 Prescott Cup, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the national rugby development pathway.

In a circular dated 23rd January 2026, Director of Rugby and Pathways Manager Paul Odera lauded schools for their longstanding support in growing the sport. He noted that the Prescott Cup continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of Kenyan rugby.

First held in 1962, the Prescott Cup is widely celebrated as one of the nation’s most historic and influential school rugby tournaments. KRU emphasized that the competition has consistently produced elite talent, with more than 80 percent of current Kenya Shujaa and Kenya Simbas players having sharpened their skills through high school rugby programmes.

The Union outlined a range of benefits for participating institutions, including national visibility through KRU digital platforms, access to internationally accredited training for teachers and coaches, alignment with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and expanded pathways for players, such as scholarships and inclusion in national talent databases.

The 2026 edition will take place from 4th May to 20th June, with schools grouped into regional zones to minimize travel expenses. A mandatory planning meeting for all registered teams is scheduled for 1st April 2026 at the KRU headquarters, where fixtures and operational details will be finalized.

Schools wishing to enter the tournament must complete the online registration process by 31st March 2026. KRU has directed any queries to Development Manager Ronald Okoth and Committee Secretary Joseph Guchu.
