Kapseret Member of Parliament aspirant John Kipkemboi Chumba has launched a youth football tournament in Langas, Kapseret Constituency, in an initiative aimed at nurturing young talent, promoting education and keeping youths away from drug abuse.
Speaking during the tournament launch, Chumba called for the establishment of youth talent development and rehabilitation centres, bursary programmes, empowerment initiatives and well-structured sports programmes supported by both county and national governments.

“Langas has very talented young people, but many of them are affected by unemployment, lack of sports facilities and limited opportunities. Sports can shape discipline, teamwork and offer a positive path for our youths,” Chumba said.
He emphasized unity and discipline, noting that sports play a key role in team building and strengthening social cohesion within the community.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, saying it has had a positive impact during the school holiday period. Sara Njeri, a resident of Yamumbi Ward, said the tournament has helped keep young people focused and disciplined.
“This initiative is not about politics. It is about securing the future of our youths by keeping them engaged in positive activities,” Njeri said.

Players taking part in the tournament also expressed gratitude for the opportunity. Emmanuel Othiambo and Fidel Kiptoo thanked Chumba for supporting youth sports and appealed for additional support, including training grounds, jerseys and football boots.
“This tournament has given us hope. With proper facilities and equipment, we can develop our talent and compete at higher levels,” Othiambo said.
The tournament brings together youth teams from different parts of Kapseret, using sports as a tool for talent development, discipline and community unity.
