Human rights activists demand an inquiry into the conduct of rogue officers in the disbanded Special Service Unit

A  section of  Business people and  farmers in Uasingishu county have  hailed  President William Ruto’s move to disband the Special Service  unit (SSU) Under  the  directorate  of  criminal investigations DCI.

The  Business people  claim to have been  harassed by rogue  officers  within the  Special service  Unit ,who engaged  in soliciting of  bribes.

“I lost Thousands  of monies to officers  in the SSU unit while on my way from  Mombasa where  I had  gone to Purchase a vehicle , I reported the  matter  to Muthaiga police  station and  nothing was done , It was not the  first  time I fell  into their  hands “Said Sammy Yego a business man and  a farmer  in Uasingishu.

Gideon yego  another  business man said the officers demanded over Ksh 100,000 which he  withdrew in various bank accounts while in Nairobi  upon being arrested  by rogue officers  in the  said  unit, We thank the  President  for  disbanding it”

Kimutai Kirui a Human Rights Activist with the Centre  Against  Torture ha  requested  the  President  to direct the  Formation of  an inquiry into the atrocities committed by rogue  officers  within the disbanded Special Service Unit.

“We welcome the presidents move  to disband  the SSU this  only means many Kenyans  have  been suffering in the hands  of  the said  Unit that was formed  to help in the  fight  against  serious crimes , only  that they resulted in using government resources  to harass  Kenyans  and  to some extent  steal from them forcefully , an example of the business people and farmers within uasingishu”Said Kimutai.

 President William Ruto Disbanded  the Unit  after the New Director Of  criminal Investigations, Mr Amin Mohamed presented  a report  Of  SSU to the President Thursday morning.

The President  has promised  to overhaul the  management of  security in the Country.
