The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Ali Bakari Ali, was arrested at his residence in Kikambala following a tip-off.

This seizure comes amid growing concerns over drug trafficking along Kenya’s coast, particularly in Mombasa, which has long been identified as a key transit hub for narcotics entering East Africa.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Kenya has increasingly become a target route for heroin smuggling due to its porous coastline and strategic location.

A 2023 report by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) also noted that heroin is among the most abused hard drugs in coastal counties, with Mombasa leading in related arrests.

Authorities continue to intensify crackdowns on narcotics, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) vowing to dismantle drug networks operating in the region.

Ali Bakari Ali now faces charges related to trafficking narcotic drugs and possession with intent to supply. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest his possible accomplices.
