Bungoma County farmers on Friday received a total 258,000 bags of affordable subsidized fertilizer from the National government towards the short rains season.
The fertilizer was flagged off in Webuye in a function graced by Governor Ken Lusaka and UDA Party Secretary General Hon Cleophas Malala who thanked President Dr William Ruto for fulfilling his agenda of giving farmers subsidized fertiliser.
Lusaka noted that lowering the cost of fertilizer will help the country achieve its agenda on food security and eventually lower the cost of living.
UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala affirmed his faith in President Dr Ruto achieving the Kenya Kwanza Plan on reduced cost of living and food security stating the price of the fertilizer was reduced from Ksh. 3,500 to Ksh. 2,500.
The Governor noted that the initiative will supplement more on his county programme of distributing free farm inputs to at least 500 vulnerable farmers per ward across Bungoma county promising to increase beneficiaries further in this financial year.
The leaders thanked Bungoma residents for shunning protests called by opposition leaders stating the protests is a way to distract the government from fulfilling its agenda to the residents.
Hon Malala hinted that the government is ready to hold talks with the opposition leaders led by Hon Raila Odinga so long as they are geared towards economic recovery but not in matters A Handshake government like in the last regime.
He urged the youth to desist from Azimio-One Kenya alliance Demonstrations as their life is at risk noting that it is not in shape for losing close to 20 youths and destruction of property.
Also present were Bungoma Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, a section of MCAs and other local opinion leaders.
