Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo Dies in Tragic Naivasha Road Accident

Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo is dead after a fatal road accident occurred in the wee hours of this morning in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
According to preliminary reports, the veteran politician was involved in a grisly head-on collision at the Karai area along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway. It is said that Jirongo was driving himself to his rural home in Lugari when the accident occurred. His vehicle collided with a Climax Coach bus, which caused a huge impact that claimed his life instantly.
Kiama Isaac, the DCIO in Naivasha Sub-County, confirmed the tragic incident and said that the accident happened at around 3:00 a.m. “He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident before any medical assistance could be offered,” he revealed.
After the crash, police rushed to the scene, securing it and commencing investigations into the circumstances leading to the accident. Traffic along the highway was temporarily disrupted as emergency responders and law enforcement officers labored to clear the wreckage and document the scene.
The body of the former legislator was later transferred to the Naivasha Sub-County Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination. Both vehicles involved in the crash were towed to a nearby police station to allow investigators to conduct a thorough mechanical inspection as part of ongoing inquiries.
While authorities have yet to make more detailed releases as to what might have caused the collision, investigations start to establish if aspects such as over-speeding, road conditions, fatigue, or mechanical failure are involved. Motorists were urged by the police to exercise caution, especially when passing through major highways, especially at night.
The late Cyrus Jirongo was a renowned politician who served as the Member of Parliament representing Lugari. For many years, he made his mark in the political circles of this country through vocal and influential leadership in national and regional political discourses. His demise is a great loss to the family, relatives, and the entire political fraternity.

As investigations continue, police are expected to release more about the crash. The funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family as they come to terms with the sad loss. It shows again how perilous road travel is and the amount of vigilance that must be paid to the highways of Kenya, especially during nighttime hours when visibility and driver fatigue can greatly increase risks.
