Kenyan thespian and veteran comedian Steven Oduor Dede, popularly referred to by many as DJ Shiti, has nostalgically reflected on a trying moment in his life, in gratitude for the unstinting support of fellow artiste Bien-Aimé Baraza and comedian Eddie Butita in getting him back on his feet.
In a heartfelt message shared via his Instagram stories on Saturday, July 26, 2025, DJ Shiti appreciated the two creatives for assisting him in reclaiming his confidence and opening up new avenues for him at a time when he was stressed in both his career and personal life.
“Anyway, I’m extremely grateful to be given a second chance. You’ve given me space, love, and inspiration when I was helplessly lost. It’s like being born again—like a new dawn. Possibilities are chasing me from all directions at the moment. Shaka!”.
Bien, who is one of the Sauti Sol award-winning band members, incorporated DJ Shiti in his hit song All My Enemies Are Suffering, an action that brought back DJ Shiti into the game and re-branded his public image.
The comedian was also thankful to Eddie Butita, who is a celebrated comedian and content creator, for not just believing in him but also starring him in the extremely successful YouTube show Kamum, which has become widely popular among internet viewers within a short period of time.
“Butita, brother, you never disappointed me. You did more than just be a friend—you are family. Your believing in me reminded me of who I am, especially after I began to forget,” Shiti testified.
This is not the first time DJ Shiti has openly testified about Butita’s influence on his career. Before, in an interview with Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki that aired on July 5, 2020, he shared that his breakthrough came when Butita instructed him to meet scriptwriter Abel Mutua.
“Butita sold me to Abel, as a matter of fact. He told him that I was special. Abel asked for my demo, I sent him some of my YouTube videos, and soon he hooked me up with Henry Gachuna, who was holding auditions for The Real Househelps of Kawangware,” DJ Shiti revealed.
He concluded his tribute by saying the support from both Bien and Butita had not only helped him rise again but had made him more determined and focused than ever.
“Thanks to both of you, I’ve bounced back—stronger, sharper, and more driven. I’m forever grateful. Much love and respect,” he said.
