In a disturbing case highlighting the vulnerability of children, detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) in Mombasa have arrested two men for the horrific defilement of a 12-year-old orphan.

The arrests follow a harrowing ordeal that unfolded over a single morning, exposing the depths of cruelty inflicted on the innocent.

The victim, a young orphan waiting at a bus stop to head to school, was approached by Anthony Jakaa Muganda, who posed as a Good Samaritan offering a ride.

Instead of safety, Muganda diverted to his home, where he subjected the girl to brutal sexual assault. Threatening her into silence, he returned her to the bus stop in her school uniform, leaving her traumatized but outwardly unscathed.

Her nightmare deepened when Reginald Wamalwa, noticing her distressed state, exploited her vulnerability. He took her to his house and indecently assaulted her, adding to her trauma. In a twisted turn, Wamalwa then escorted her to a police station, feigning concern by reporting Muganda’s crime.

The brave girl, however, revealed Wamalwa’s own assault, leading to his immediate arrest at the station. He was arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts shortly after.

The pursuit of Muganda was relentless. AHTCPU detectives, driven by the gravity of the crime, launched a manhunt, tracing forensic evidence to his hideout in Nyanchwa, Kisii town. Cornered and arrested, Muganda was brought back to Mombasa and processed, facing arraignment at the Shanzu Law Courts today.

This case has sent shockwaves through the community, raising urgent concerns about child safety and the prevalence of predators preying on the vulnerable. The orphan’s ordeal, marked by back-to-back betrayals, underscores the need for stronger protective measures.

AHTCPU officials commended the girl’s courage in speaking out, noting her testimony was pivotal in securing the arrests.

Authorities are investigating further to determine if other victims are involved and to ensure the perpetrators face the full weight of the law. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior.
