ATHLETICS KENYA TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH CLEAN ENVIRONMENT

Athletics Kenya is in the forefront to fight climate change through setting up Air quality sensors in Eldoret and Kapsabet.
Speaking during the launch of the AIR QUALITY SENSOR, cabinet secretary for sports Ababu Namwamba said that athletics Kenya has been ahead in fighting climate change locally and internationally.
“United nation assembly resolution 7518 on sports as an enabler for sustainability development highlights the call to integrate sports and physical activities into the national strategies for sustainable development. Taking note on the contributions that sports makes to help and human well being, Kenya is already on this path with athletics Kenya a global trailblazer, am pleased to say Athletics Kenya was the first of 214 world athletics member federations to sign and commit to the sports for climate action under United Nation framework convention on climate change which seeks to part organization to reduce carbon emission in line with 2015 Paris climate agreement.” Said Namwamba
He appreciated the collaboration of environmental institution support to athletics Kenya in setting up the gadgets in different parts of Kenya.
“I want to thank UNEP and Stockholm environment institute for the successful partnership that as develop through athletics Kenya and Its through such partnership that we have installed air quality sensors here in Lobo and Eliud Kipchoge complex center, Moi sports center kasarani, Nyayo stadium and Nakuru athletics club.” Said the CS.
He continued to say that Data from these centers will help us put up measures to control air pollution in sporting venues and thus ensures that our athletes will compete in a clean environment, Its encamped upon all of us to help the world to fight air pollution and climate change.
CS added that It is an honor to see world beaters like Faith Chepgetich Kipyegon come out to champion climate action. “It is so pleasing seeing athletes Confronting the climate change.”

However , Namwamba said that Moving forward other federations will come on board to fight climate change.
He gave a lot of appreciation to former elite athletes for their contribution on global spheres and promised to support them both active and retired athletes.
“I want to celebrate lobo for many reasons, having taken around by this national icon Ibrahim Hussein it is a statement that the life an elite athlete has been inducted into the new York hall of fame did not end on the track or streets that we can extend that and continue to be useful to your community and your country policy that we are going to see implemented very strongly by the government through the ministry of sports.” Said Namwamba.


Namwamba said he has unwavering support to athletes as they brand the country globally which they can only appreciate by supporting them.
“We will continue to support athletes, that is Supporting our athletes in all aspects in helping them in preparing, helping them to invest, that means government helping them in real marketing intelligence, and helping to take care of them in their retirement after they have left active competition. Among other things we are going to introduce a special pension arrangement where athletes in retirement can live dignified lives and continue to be part of this beautiful contribution in our society.” Said Namwamba
