Ibrahim Rotich, who is the prime suspect in the murder of his lover, Agnes at Eldoret High Court
In a significant legal development, an Eldoret Court has ordered the extraction of DNA samples from Ibrahim Rotich, the primary suspect implicated in the heinous murder of former World Cross-Country Champion Agnes Tirop.
Under the directive of Justice Robert Wananda, the suspect is to be escorted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret by the police from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for the purpose of DNA testing.
This crucial analysis aims to correlate the genetic material obtained from Rotich with the clothing worn by the deceased on the day of her tragic demise and a knife believed to have been employed in the fatal incident at their residence in Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Despite being out on a KSh 400,000 bond, Rotich vehemently denies any involvement in Agnes’s death. State Counsel David Fedha, in a compelling application before the court, urged for the issuance of orders for the suspect to undergo a DNA test, emphasizing its critical role in the ongoing murder trial against Rotich.
“Your Lordship, I pray that you issue orders that we are allowed to take the samples from the suspect so that we can compare them with the cloth and weapon that were recovered from the scene of the crime. The police have submitted exhibits in the murder case,” expressed Fedha.
A post-mortem conducted by two pathologists at the Iten County Referral Hospital mortuary unveiled the grim details of the deceased’s injuries, revealing stab wounds in the neck and a blow to the head with a blunt object.
The athlete’s lifeless body was discovered in her residence on the outskirts of Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet County, on October 13, 2022.
Her final resting place was her parents’ home in the Mosoriot area of Nandi County, where she was laid to rest on October 23, 2022.
The upcoming court proceedings are scheduled for mention, intending to ascertain compliance with the court’s directives as the case continues to unfold, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of the esteemed athlete.
