Detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of a shoe trader at Kariokor Market in Nairobi.

The suspects, identified as Joseph Kimani Ndungu, alias Bajong, and Peter Kimani Githinji, alias Denoo, were arrested in Kayole following investigations into the killing of Paul Mwangangi.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mwangangi was reportedly stabbed along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge, on October 12, 2026.

Police officers who responded to the incident found the trader lying face down with a fresh stab wound to the chest.

Detectives from the Crime Scene Investigation unit processed the scene and documented evidence that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The body was subsequently moved to the City Mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.

Suspects Arrested in Kayole

In a follow-up operation, detectives from DCI Central and Kamukunji, working alongside officers from the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office, pursued leads that took them to a hideout in Kayole.

The operation resulted in the arrest of the two suspects, who were later escorted to Kamukunji Police Station and placed in custody as investigations continued.

Detectives also recovered a bloodstained Maasai sword suspected to have been used in the killing.

The weapon was secured as an exhibit for further forensic examination as investigators seek to establish its connection to the fatal stabbing.

The arrests mark a significant development in the investigation, with detectives expected to pursue additional leads to determine the events that led to Mwangangi’s death.

The suspects remain in custody pending further investigations and their arraignment in court.

DCI Sends Condolences to Family

The DCI extended its condolences to Mwangangi’s family, friends and colleagues following his death.

The agency said it remained committed to pursuing all leads, establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that anyone found responsible is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The killing has drawn attention to the investigation into violent crime in Nairobi, as detectives work to establish the full details of the incident.

The suspects are yet to be convicted, and their culpability will be determined through the judicial process.
