St Anthony upset Bwake to lift Trans Nzoia County rugby 7s trophy

The curtain came down on the Term Two 2026 Trans Nzoia County Rugby 7s Championships with dominant performances from St Anthony’s Boys and St Joseph’s Girls, who emerged as county champions after a fiercely contested tournament that showcased the growing strength of school rugby in the region.
Boys: St Anthony’s Power Through to the Title
St Anthony’s stamped their authority on the competition from the pool stages, overcoming St Marks 31-7 before thrashing Maziwa 42-0 to qualify for the knockout rounds.
In the quarter-finals, the rugby giants dismantled Sinoko 45-0, setting up a mouthwatering semi-final clash against Kapsara, one of the tournament’s surprise packages. St Anthony’s proved too strong, securing a convincing 26-5 victory to book their place in the final.
Standing in their way was the defending champions Bwake boys who had swept through Pool C, scoring 95 points without conceding a single try. Bwake continued their fine form in the knockout stages, beating Matumbei 24-7 in the quarters before overpowering St Marks 38-7 in the semi-finals.
The final lived up to expectations as both teams exchanged fierce attacks and resolute defence. However, St Anthony faught hard against the defending champions to manage a clinical finish as they edged Bwake 19-12 to lift the county title.

Kapsara Impress Despite Missing Out
Among the standout stories of the tournament was Kapsara’s remarkable run. After topping Pool A ahead of Matumbei and Koykoy, they stormed into the semi-finals with a commanding 33-0 victory over Mubere before eventually falling to the newly crowned champions St Anthony’s.
Girls: St Joseph’s Reign Supreme
The girls’ competition produced equally exciting rugby, with St Joseph’s emerging as the team to beat.
They dominated Pool B, defeating Kolongolo 27-0, Wehoya 51-0 and edging Biribiriet 15-12 in a tightly contested encounter.
In the semi-finals, St Joseph’s delivered one of the performances of the tournament, crushing Kiptoror 41-0 to reach the final.
Their opponents, Biribiriet, had battled past Rafiki 7-5 in a tense semi-final after finishing second in Pool B.
The championship match was a cagey affair, with defences dominating throughout. A solitary try proved enough for St Joseph’s, who secured a hard-fought 5-0 victory over Biribiriet to clinch the girls’ county crown.
