The police arrested a 30-year-old Nyeri man because he had killed his wife and their two small children during a violent incident which shocked the residents of Kagayu estate in Nyeri Central.
The police arrested Peter Kariuki Njaramba on Monday after they discovered his family members dead inside their one-bedroom apartment which they had rented on Sunday morning. The investigators discovered the victims at the crime scene with deep throat wounds which the authorities classified as a brutal crime scene.
Victims Found With Severe Injuries
Police reports state that the bodies of two children named Wilfred Njaramba Kariuki who was six years old and Joyline Njeri who was two and a half years old were found lying in blood pools on seat cushions located in the living room. Each child had their throat cut and numerous stab injuries throughout their body.
The police discovered Mary Nafula who was 31 years old hanging from a double-decker bunk bed with a rope tied around her neck. The scientists who studied her body found evidence of stab wounds which appeared on her throat and chest. The medical examiners determined that her throat had been cut before her body was hung up which demonstrated that someone had faked her hanging.
Signs of Struggle at the Scene
An officer familiar with the investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case, said the house showed clear signs of a violent struggle. The room contained clothes and utensils together with furniture and food items which had been thrown around the space because the attacker had fought with the victims.
“The officers discovered the door standing fully open when they arrived. The children were found dead on the seats in the living room, which left the room in a state of disorder. The officer stated that the woman hung in the bedroom but the slit throat showed that she did not kill herself.
Husband Considered Prime Suspect
Detectives still consider Njaramba the main suspect even though he told investigators that he left home on the night when the event occurred. The authorities identified him as the last person who saw the family alive before their deaths.
The Nyeri Deputy County Commissioner Maina Ngunyi announced that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken control of the case. The officers will investigate every lead and generate a comprehensive report after they finish the case investigation.
The authorities have not reached any definitive results, but early evidence points toward the existence of a domestic disturbance. The police station at Ruring’u currently holds the suspect while detectives continue their investigation work.
Postmortem Examinations Pending
The Nyeri County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary received the three victims who will undergo postmortem examination to establish the details about their deaths.
Detectives will finish their investigation work before presenting their findings to the court because police plan to keep the suspect in detention. The local community remains in shock after a tragic event and residents demand immediate justice for the victims.
