Kericho County is set to take a prominent position in the national limelight as it hosts the 2025 National Farmers Awards and Celebrations, which is scheduled to happen on Friday, December 19, 2025. The big occasion will take place at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium located in Kericho town and is anticipated to attract farmers and key stakeholders in the agriculture sector, including decision-makers and development partners.

The National Farmers Awards are intended to reward outstanding players in the entire value chain of agriculture, in line with the government’s commitment to improving food security, increasing incomes in rural areas, and developing agribusiness innovations. The current edition of the awards is set to focus on individual farmers that are highly productive and hardy, as well as seed growers who are central to the supply of improved planting material.

Furthermore, the agro-dealers who are central to connecting the farmers to the necessary commodities like fertilizers and certified seeds shall also receive recognition. The MSMEs that are leading the innovations within the agribusiness industry, in addition to the millers who are adding value to the agriculture products by contributing to food processing and markets, shall also receive recognition.

Transporters, especially motorbike operators providing last-mile services to farm inputs and produce, will also receive appreciation for their contribution to supporting efficient agricultural supply chain operations. Manufacturers of agricultural produce and countries that have developed competitive and sustainable agricultural value chains are other groups that will be honored during the event.

While speaking during a meeting of the county heads of departments, Kericho County Commissioner Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru stated that all logistics and security aspects had been put into place among other details. This is to ensure that all is well to enable a smooth-running national event as expected not only at the county level, but also at a national level.

“Kericho is ready to prove the positive impact that strategic investment by the government can have on the lives of people. This is the benchmark that the rest of the counties should meet,” Mr. Gicheru added.

The Chair also stated that the various categories of the award are a reflection of the inclusive nature of their agricultural transformation agenda, an aspect that takes into consideration the role of all players in the chain. The County Commissioner also stated that the award is not only an occasion to celebrate but also an opportunity to provide a platform to exhibit innovations in agriculture.

“All preparations are complete, and we are confident that the National Farmers’ Awards will not only celebrate excellence but will also distinguish the leadership and strength of Kericho in agricultural transformation,” he said. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, in collaboration with the county governments, has coordinated the participants’ arrivals from various parts of the country. The celebrations will be held from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and are intended to mark the prominence of agriculture in the development of the economy of Kenya.
