Preparations for the third edition of the highly anticipated Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run are in top gear as organizers put finishing touches ahead of the major event slated for December 6, 2025. The annual race, which has grown in stature over the years, continues to attract professional athletes and amateur runners from different parts of the country, firmly establishing itself as one of the key events in Kenya’s athletics calendar.
A prayer and dedication ceremony at Chepsaita Grounds has kicked off this year’s edition, bringing together organizers, athletes, and the community. The spiritual event sought to bless the venue for the success of the competition. Hundreds of locals, clergy, and sports enthusiasts turned up to pray for the safety of participants, favorable weather, and a smooth running of the event.
Patron Farouk Kibet, who led the ceremony, called on the community to look at the cross-country beyond a sporting event. He pointed out that the event has the potential to identify and nature emerging athletic talent, as well as promote social-economic growth in the region. Kibet noted that sports can play a significant role in transforming lives, especially among young people, by keeping them engaged in positive and productive activities.
He was accompanied by Lurambi MP Titus Khamala, Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe, and Malava parliamentary aspirant David Ndakwa, who all commended the organizers for their commitment to uplifting the community through sports and education. They noted that the event has not only boosted local pride but also provided opportunities for small businesses and service providers to benefit from the influx of visitors during the competition.
