Kibicho Shines to Clinch KCB Caddie Golf Tournament in Nyeri

Richard Kibicho was in top shape to claim champion status in the KCB East Africa Golf Tour Caddie Tournament that was held at the 9-hole Nyeri Club.

The handicap 1 golfer was too good for a good field of over 100 golfers, returning a good 72 nett to capture the coveted title. The high-profile event, which was witnessed by caddies from across the region, was intense and exciting as players showcased their improving skills in the game.

An over-joyed Kibicho attributed his win to discipline and determination, claiming that the victory was not only his own but also a source of inspiration for other caddies. “This win is a confirmation that devotion and consistency always bear fruit. To compete with such a competitive field pushed me to work even harder, and I am glad to take this trophy home.”. His dream is to continue working even harder., and to represent caddies in even larger tournaments,” he stated in accepting his award.

Daniel Mwangi, handicap 8, was second runner-up with an overall score of 77 nett. Close behind was Patrick Abira, handicap 6, who also earned 77 nett to become the second runner-up on countback.

The tournament was not left wanting in Division Two, where handicap 29 player Brian Ngari took center stage after a shining 65 nett. He was followed by handicap 28’s Brian Munene, who scored 67 nett, while Samuel Nderitu (handicap 20) also scored 67 nett but had to settle with a third position.

The ladies caddies were not left out in Nyeri either. In Division One, handicap 14 player Mary Gathoni led the way on 83 nett ahead of handicap 12’s Wangari Njoroge on 93 nett and handicap 16 player Winnie Kanyo who returned 95 nett. Overjoyed Gathoni said the victory was a milestone for women caddies: “This is a great statement that women are capable of succeeding in this game.”. I hope that my win encourages more women to take up and excel in golf,” she said.

Division Two of the ladies’ category was another stunning display, and handicap 29 golfer Jane Mukami set the pace with a 65 nett. She was pushed by handicap 31’s Quinto Wangechi (68 nett) and Edith Wambui (handicap 30), who finished third on the podium with 70 nett.
